The wise donkey shows Jed the way. Eventually Jed was purchased for $.05. Stewart was hurtful that he would even sell him for so little. The boy who bought Jed took him and placed him in the basement, next to a concrete donkey. Jed sat and felt sad.

Though he did not feel as sad as he had before. Someone had cared enough to buy him out of slavery and had set him free. Jed was no longer held by anyone person, even though his heart was still with Stewart, no matter how hard it was.

After a time Jed wanted to talk with someone, so he looked toward the concrete donkey for inspiration. The donkey looked to him and began to speak. He spoke with wisdom about things only a donkey would understand. The donkey had gone through a lot of suffering too. He had lost parts of his body. And now here he was. Still alive, and he understood Jed's pain. Knowing that someone else understood made Jed happy. The donkey suggested that Jed take to reading. Reading is fun. Jed reads the dictionary, because he believes in the value of education.

Without Stewart Jed didn't have much else to do. So Jed went and sat and read a dictionary. Cover to cover. After which Jed knew a lot more words than he had before. Jed did a lot of thinking and realized he still needed to seek out answers to his deepest questions. Why had Stewart left him? What had he done wrong to deserve the fate he had been handed. Somehow it was just so unfair to Jed. He wandered.

Jed wandered for a long time. Jed really realized that he didn't even know himself anymore. The old Stewart had been a part of him, and without that, he didn't know who he was anymore.

As he was wandering, he had seen the changed Stewart. Stewart was running around with his "new friends" like he was all big and tough. Stewart was loud and obnoxious. Jed didn't really like the new Stewart very much. He still felt he should love him though, but it was hard. Because Jed knew it wasn't his place to change Stewart, and he had to let him be free, even if it was wrong.

While Jed was roaming around, he came across a pink flamingo. The pink flamingo referred to himself as "The Great Pizante," this flamingo was very strange too. Jed spoke with the flamingo, and explained how he had been abandoned by Stewart, and how his life had been crushed and destroyed by this boy. How he wished it hadn't happened that way. He was sad. The Great Pizante teaches Jed about life.

The flamingo stood tall and began to pronounce his ideas. He suggested the ideas of what it means to be a pink flamingo. He even gave Jed a registration form if Jed wanted to come to the next self-actualizing seminar where Jed could actualize himself to be a pink flamingo too. Jed wasn't too sure if he wanted to become a pink flamingo. The pink flamingo was very happy with things though, so Jed signed up to come to one of them, at least to listen in.

The flamingo smiled at him and told him it was the best thing he had ever signed up for in his life. He then began to recall what his life was like before he became an actualized pink flamingo. Jed felt the pain that the pink flamingo had, it was a lot like the feeling he had now. The flamingo told him about the freedom of realizing that one really is a pink flamingo and can now life the free life. Free of the chains, set for from the bondage. You too can become a liberated pink flamingo. Somehow, Jed felt he was becoming that.
