Hell's Canyon

PreviousNext
Past the small town of Imnaha, there is a road up to Hat Point lookout.  It winds up the canyon for about 25 miles, but the road is so slow that it took us about 1 1/2 hours to travel it.  The spectacular scenery and breathtaking views of the canyon made it all worth it, even if the washboarded dirt road was hard on our poor old car, Edith.  Hells  Canyon is the deepest river gorge in the U.S., with the canyon rim ranging from over 5,500 to almost 8,000 feet above the river.  It's crazy to stand and look down for more than a mile to the river.  In my humble opinion, it's even prettier than the Grand Canyon.
