Introduction
So, this will be my first Ludum Dare, and I’m totally disorganised and unprepared…maybe it’ll be more fun that way!
I’m going to be using flash to make my game, which I started to learn a few days ago. Last night I figured out how to keyboard events… Yesterday’s major triumph was resizing the dimensions of the game window…
Between now and the start, I’d like to learn how to rotate sprites, make classes, and import art from Inkscpae. My development tools will be the free Flex flash compiler, and VIM, maybe also SVN (to keep the single monolithic text file that will inevitably be my code base in some semblance of control!). I installed Inkscape, Paint.net and Blender in the last few days, and will be relying on sxfr for sound fx.
I’m going in the deep end by using an unfamiliar language without a proper IDE, but I want to learn to make Flash games and this is as good a time as any… I’m a bit concerned that I’ll spend too much time trying to learn how to do basic tasks (ie, manipulate arrays - or is it vectors? - in flash), but we’ll see…
My game will be 2D, simple, probably single screen, and with very simple geometric graphics.
I’ll be delighted if I make something that resembles a coherent game!
I’m really not sure how this is going to work from the point of view of sleep strategy, I stayed up much too late last night learning flash, so I’m already wrecked… it’s going to be a fun weekend ![]()
