I haven't seen Kaizen on for quite some time, or thirdparty for that matter. post updated on Apr 5, 2007 @ 5:31am | | Re: ranks!? WHAT HAPPENED????? :: Apr 5, 2007 @ 5:33am |

This is a very good thing for someone in your position eckels. You are new, so you started out playing pretty badly. But you've learned and are now making yourself a "presence". If the stats did not decay, you would be stuck with your unfortunate low win days for a long time. As it is, your bad games will soon be lost and the rankings will start reflecting your current skills sooner than if these games stayed on your record for ages.
Oh, and the stats are not discarded just because they disappear off the website. Phil keeps them secreted away in an undisclosed location. Notice he posted a "best of" page for March. I can't wait to see the tallies for the end of the year!!! | | Re: ranks!? WHAT HAPPENED????? :: Apr 5, 2007 @ 9:54am |

The important bit - is that your rank stays the same, which it appears to have done. | | Re: ranks!? WHAT HAPPENED????? :: Apr 8, 2007 @ 7:02am |

I think that a ten day sampling of games can be very misleading - maybe someone doesn't play for a week? maybe one week there's an influx of newbies because of some new review of the game on some site or magazine.
By widening the sample area (the ten day limit) to something larger (like two weeks to a month), you get a fairer average of a player's skill, and it will end the large noticable changes in players scores.
for example, say I play on average 1000 points a day. After ten days, i'll have about 10000 points. on the eleventh day, my score can drop to 9000. that's 1/10th my total score. Now, this is assuming i'm playing the same amount of points every day. Maybe on one day I did 1500 points, and maybe on some days i didnt play at all.
If you use a month sample, the score would tally higher, but the drop would be 1/30th of the total score on any given lost day. I think it would give a far more honest representation of how a player is doing, and a player wouldn't be punished so bad for not playing for a day or two. | | Re: ranks!?
