Looks like people are already showing my new server some love! I have some ideas for it, the first of which being a five minute timer on games. I'm wondering if I could get trivia's admin bot so I can tweak it to my needs, or if phil or someone else could give me the API details so I can program my own. I'm marginal with python, but I'm sure I can get something working!

I would love that! If you really need it I'll make a 5-minute-games version of the bot. However you have to know that it has a drawback: only 11 players will be able to join becouse the bot takes a slot. Maybe it could leave when the room is full and get back later.. I was working on a modified server that doesn't have that disadvantage but I realized that I don't have that much time and that it infringes my contract with phil so I don't think I'm going to finish it :)

If it gets that many people on, I have a hotkey script written that will time the game and type in a /stop after the five minutes are up. That way we can still have five minute, 12 player matches. I'd have to be in the room though. I don't need you to modify the bot, so long as I can look at the code and script it in, I can modify it myself. I might want to tweak it later, like have the timer extended for a minute by a mod if the game is really good.

Well if you have to be in the room then it's almost the same. However the bot can work automatiaclly all day and it doesn't need a running galcon client window.

Cool, where can I get the bot?

Hey, I'm trying to find a good happy medium for games on my server. Some people like seven minute games, others like five, still others would like to see ten or even three minute games. Vote here and let me know!

A longer timer depending on how many people are playing would be the most logical approach to me, if that's possible. When you get more than 3 or 4 players it can be tough to finish a game within the time limit, and it leads to some pretty random results. I think the issues I've had with some of these timed games would be improved with a longer timer. 10 minutes would probably be enough for the biggest games, but 5 is great for small games.

Im going with Kaizen on this one. If it is a three person game make it three min. If it is a 4 person game make it 3 1/2 min. and so on and so forth. Continually add 30 sec on its cock for each person. The longest a game could possibly be is 7 min. for eleven people (the bot doesn't count)

I LOVE THIS SERVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why does the bot award the win to the person with the most planets?  Wouldn't it makes more sense to award the win based on most ships?

I don't really feel that way would lead to better games. The reason it's the way it is, though, is because all the bot does to end the game is issue a /stop command. That's all we can do really, because the server isn't set up to be modded, as far as I know. I would definitely experiment with different ways of ending the game if I could.
