I tried to check it out from subversion, to see if I could figure out the problem myself, but I got:
~/src/misc$ svn co svn://www.imitationpickles.org/barbie/trunk
svn: No repository found in 'svn://www.imitationpickles.org/barbie/trunk'
This is a really cool game. Very well put together!
The name choice is a shame. I'm not sure why you chose "Barbie Seahorse Adventures" over "Bubble Kong" (which was also a poor name). Since you only just released, it is not too late to change the name. You really should consider a name that does not contain a totally unrelated well-known trademark.post updated on Apr 23, 2007 @ 12:58pm |

Regarding the name - got any good suggestions? The team generally likes the name, but I suppose if someone came up with a really really great one, we'd change it.

Joined: Apr 23, 2007 Posts: 6 Location: Hamster Republic (Southern California Enclave) | Well, if it was up to me, I would probably have chosen something like "Bubble Seahorse Adventures"
But if you really like the "Barbie" name, what about "Barbie The Seahorse's Adventure". The addition of the definite article makes it clear that Barbie is the name of the sea-horse, as opposed to the alternative interpretation that this is a Mattel Barbie branded Seahorse Adventure. If I didn't already know what it was from the pyweek contest, I would have seen the title and expected a platform game featuring a pixel-version of a pink plastic seahorse toy that my daughter* will be asking me for next christmas.
Other ideas that occur to me are:
Bubbly Seahorse Adventure
Hassey Seahorse Adventure
Toba Seahorse Adventure (I have no idea what that means, I just saw it on pyweek)
Moonie Seahorse Andventure
Soggy Seahorse Adventure
* Hypothetical straw-man argument. I haven't actually got a daughter, and even if I did, I would probably buy her the plush stuffed version of the sea-horse toy, rather than the cheap plastic one with the tiny plastic bubble accessories which constitute a choking hazardpost updated on Apr 24, 2007 @ 5:25pm |

Is debian packaging okay?
Are deriviatives okay? |

svn://www.imitationpickles.org/pyweek4/trunk - it includes a GPL license now. So it should be able to be packaged just about anywhere... or whatever. |

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Second, Joćo Pinto reports the following error message when he tries to run from the copy he checked out of subversion:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I press a key on the first screen, the game will just crash with:

maybe it depends on a newer pygame version ?

What is the minimum required version of pygame? I have only been testing with 1.7.1 |

Hope that helps!

Oh! thanks! I see it now. I must have been blind.
Another question. How old is the tarball at http://www.imitationpickles.org/barbie/files/barbie-1.0.tar.gz ?
Is it missing any bugfixes present in the subversion repository? |

Oh, I agree entirely. It is just tough to convince other of that when the old tarball is at the top of http://www.imitationpickles.org/barbie/ (a "stable release" mentality) |

I tried to install pygame from MAC PORTS as well.
The problem appears that the TTF file is either not there or not named correctly.
Would appreciate a post with the fix |

If you are thinking of remaking games for another pyweek or so you should consider this one:
http://www.imitationpickles.org/galcon/uploads/trivia21/bumpy.zip
I've played so many times with bumpy when I was young. Combination of speed, logic and skill.
I remember a few level-passwords: winner, zombie, system.
Edit
I've removed the file from my uploads. You can download it for free from some old DOS sites. Bumpy's Arcade Fantasy:

Hey, interesting game .. it looks like it might be abandonware .. so I'd like it if you removed the file from your uploads unless the author has given permission for it to be distributed freely.
Thanks!
