thirdparty Joined: Dec 20, 2006 Posts: 279 Location: Eastern U.S.A.	Hard to say. I guess these are the obvious suspects: rythelas - best tactics. (Tends to kill me in direct confrontations. There are three or four others who are also able to crush me routinely, but I think rythelas is the most dangerous of them.) nfp - most alert. (Tends to kill me whenever I take a risk. The best counter is to force a direct confrontation at the first opportunity--which is probably why I'm on his own list--but this leaves me vulnerable to the others in the game.) philhassey - closest resemblance to my own style. (Tends to result in mutual annihilation. There are a number of players who cause me trouble by gunning for me, but they can usually be talked or trained out of it--phil's the only one whose mere existence poses a problem.) reply

kaizen Joined: Jan 24, 2007 Posts: 36 Location: Guildford, England	Thirdparty, for a couple of reasons. 1) He's an expert at comebacks. I can't write him off unless he's totally destroyed. 2) He's very good at looking weak to make you attack the other guy and then producing thousands of ships out of thin air. The second also applies to Becephalus, although he's not so subtle about it ;) Becephalus also beats me at melee most of the time. Brend/Aeliendi/Hooray too because he originally taught me how to play so I can't use his own tactics on him :) Goober/Carn is probably the most dangerous over all (I've hardly ever won against him) but doesn't seem to be around much any more. post updated on Feb 24, 2007 @ 5:05pm reply

There are many good players that beat me consistently, but, the person that is downright scary for me is Carn (or ryth or rythelas or goober or lunaresce or touchpad or whichever of his million and a half names he's using at the time). nfp, Becephalus, and ThirdParty are next in line. reply

Since I haven't seen Nfp or Carn lately, I thought I might update my list: 1 - Becephalus - probably has second-best tactics after Carn; is generally an excellent player 2 - Misiek - probably has second-best situational awareness after nfp; expands very aggressively; is willing to risk his own survival to take out an opponent; tends to form vendettas. 3 - Solomon - is the player most terrified of me, and hence is constantly forming alliances against me, directing other players' attention to me, trying to hit me when I'm down, overestimating my strength when balancing powers, etc.; generally very good at diplomacy. 4 - newbies - unpredictable; tend to attack even when it's not in their interests; tend to have more ships in reserve than expected. reply

The rest you can figure out why you lost or where you went wrong and what you can do to trip them up and make them a non-factor early in the game. ThirdParty is next in line, then nfp. reply

He did an excellent job of balancing a difficult situation in which I was third place, not letting me recover but also not tossing the game to the other guy. I think he deserves a space on my list, probably just after Becephalus. reply

solomon Joined: Feb 2, 2007 Posts: 52 Location: Los Angeles	I wanted to say a quick word about Third Party's cute comment above that I am most scared of him :) Love Third Party - top three player, but if you're afraid of anyone in this game, you'll fail. Psychological attacks are extremely important in this game, but due to the radical continuum of personalities in here, it's close to impossible to manipulate well. Third is very very good at lying, so good that I'm not sure he knows he's doing it. Another thing - I should put this in another post, I'm a very lazy player - rarely 'on' because Galcon is like meditation for me, but that is definitely not the way to be a Carn or Third Party - who never let themselves be eaten. I will happily crash my four ships into the abyss so I can work a little, or eat cookies, you know. Misiek has wonderful dexterity but he is very easily upset and throws his game. Becephalus is beaten with pressure, and then there is a bunch of smart players working their way up who have great days, but the only way to be top tier is to refuse to die. (that does not mean refuse to surrender - there are a vast majority of games where you can predict the ending without error many minutes before they end - for all those waiting, surrender when it's over - and in so doing, you'll learn a great deal about when and where you are in the path towards winning a game). I do actually fear Nanno, though. reply

You're afraid I'll kick you for calling me "gorgeous". =) Although now that you're back to your real name and are an admin as well I'm afraid I don't have much leverage there anymore. =( Although I do have ties to THE MAN who has the power of ultimate kibosh, so watch out! Maybe you SHOULD fear me! HAHAHA! Actually, you have become one of the best players out there, and you're one of my favorites to go up against. You're a good player but not cocky, and you don't whine about why you didn't win or how you're getting picked on. You're very good at getting fat in a hurry--your smaller neighbors fear you in the early stages of a game (gobble-gobble). reply

diethmarker Joined: Mar 16, 2007 Posts: 24	mausl flex nanno carn maybe solomon too but havent played him in a while. flex is very fast, mausl very hard to beat, nanno unpredictable and carn as he uses the /msg so much - i even caught him out while he was /msg me he accidently sent me one that should of been to another player! he was setting us all up!! carn is very good at organising/teaming up/planning etc i do enjoy playing him. thirdparty is highly rated but the times ive played him {{ as dieth + other names }} hes been average not seen anything amazing though that could be down to sheer luck on the games ive had only? will update if another comes up the ranks with a talent ! reply

diethmarker Joined: Mar 16, 2007 Posts: 24	agreed assassin kaizen and mausl im sure are related! there tactics are identical! i think to make games fair everyone should attack everyone thats why carn third nanno phil + misiek are my favourite players - none of them sit by and just watch. - all games with these people are active - it just brings games to the next level. on the subject of nanno and phil - i do think they are excellent players BUT there weakness/fault is they play TOO fairly lol at the cost to themselves - well for sure nanno is guilty of this - phill plays less so but is still fairer than need be. is it because they dont want people to shout foul play!>? i dont know but watching them {{ and especially nanno}} play, there have been games that they could of won but because they attack everyone evenly {{ not pushing to oust one player when the situation arrises that they can}} it allows people to rebound back. whenever i play i always say i will attack biggest player and if i truce - 9 times out of 10 i never am the person to break it that being said if i can terminate a player quickly i will as sooo many times its those players that do rebound to go onto win the game. dangerous players for me currently? still nanno,mausl,carn + solomon.... havent seen felixable in a while. but yes i do watch kaizen with an eagle eye - hes forever quiet till he unleashes his power and wins within seconds ! hehehe reply

I look forward to more in the future! mario IS carn ! or carns younger brother? i played mario just now - and his temper is identical to carn - he threatens like carn - ie move in 5 seconds then gives a cute countdown 5,4,3 etc he types way faster than i can read - and truces with everyone he needs too. - even in a three way battle lol. - what with how he talks generally in conversation..... 20 bucks that mario is carn. im 100 percent certain. reply

growler Joined: Jul 14, 2007 Posts: 13 Location: paxland - and robcantwin still! lol	this is a long running thread - and does indeed list all the top ranking people that should be carfully observed throughout the entire game. but what of the opposite? dare i call the thread whoose the most short sighted player for you!? you know the type of player that sits most of the game doing nothing when calls of help yellow! if you dont move NOW blue wins ! then only moves as three k of ships comes crashing down on his/her head 3 seconds before end of game!!! or a player attacking you when you have more than they do by half as much - but there is already a dominant force sitting on a mega cluster that unless all players attack together that force will wipe everyone! but no for some weirdo factor they target YOU ! yes with their entire fleet they try to wipe you and say at the end of the game gg !!!! no ! not when you let the biggest colour win by suiciding on the only person that could of evened up the game lmao !!! well thats my polite way of calling it =) theres many names in game for this type of player =) i have a top six - so far - people who have played much longer than new noobs so have no excuses for not grasping the basics of the game. 1 dEXTER10 2 dahuuudge 3 xinit 4 ding333 5 skinner 6 castor i have complete confidence by naming and shaming i shall get suicided upon instantly - but as some already do this i loose nothing ! lol i pray these people will one day bless their presence in our top ten ranks =) post updated on Aug 11, 2007 @ 9:30am reply

hooray Joined: Feb 22, 2007 Posts: 3 Location: Taiwan	I'm definitely my own worst enemy - my constant, compulsive ****-talking, lecturing, abuse, griefing, and enemy creation tend to make it very difficult for me to win anything after the first 30 minutes ;) After that ... Kaizen, Misiek, and assassin437. All of them are too expensive to take down without a giant advantage, and they won't stop coming back. reply

Then there aren't any specific dangerous players for me, but i'd say suiciders are the most dangerous, because they most of the time go for the admiral in the server, me. Next in line to suiciders come very aggressive players as they're inpredictable and sometimes have a knack of getting impatient and suiciding, on the admiral of course. Also aggressive players can cause me to lose my patience and make headless decisions without thinking through properly. reply
