No, they still don't count for points or percent, but I've found that one of the best ways to improve my ffa games is to play a few team games. I'm not exactly sure why that is, and it might not work for everyone, but I've found it to be consistently true in my case. Maybe it's helpful to be able to see more clearly how the other good players work (their various situational tactics, their starting strategies, their use of ships, the percentages they use, etc.). Maybe my frantic advice to my teammates drums the lessons into my own head as well. Maybe the change of pace makes me feel fresh and ready to take on the universe when we go back to ffa. Or maybe it's just the morale-boost I get since I generally tend to be very good at team games. Whatever the reason, I usually find my ffa games greatly improved after playing teams for awhile.
Some reasons to play teams? Team games are GREAT for teaching newbies the ropes. They're also non-stop action, so they're lots of fun for those playing and there are no long boring waits for people who are already out of the game.
ADVICE TO NEW PLAYERS: Listen to your teammates! Watch how your best teammate(s) play. If you pay attention and do what the better players tell you and imitate how they play, first your team will start winning. Second, you will find that their advice carries over to ffa games. Sure, there are some different strategies in team games, but the basics are the same. You will have learned how to use your ships and use them quickly, which will greatly improve your chances in ffa.
ADVICE TO OLD HANDS: Help the newbies out! Sometimes the good players just get frustrated with their teammates, and rather than give constructive advice they just call them names (or leave). That won't help them. It's ok to "shout" (as it were), but it's not ok to be rude and demeaning. This generally only makes the bad players play worse. And be ok with unfair games. Sometimes the newbies need a few games unbalanced in their favor just to boost their morale and let them taste what it feels like to win occassionally. Since the games aren't counted in the ranks, you've got nothing to lose except a very short amount of time.

Actually, considering that, I love team play even more. Seeing my rank fall means that I succeeded at getting some work done, so this is a great success, Latin-, Greek-, and programming-wise :o) | | Re: Play teams to improve your rank!! :: Apr 6, 2007 @ 9:06am |

I've been suckered into a few two on ones, which i don't enjoy much. I think there should be some specific servers with stricter controls on them. |
